This is very interesting and raises a number of associations and thoughts.

One is a certain naiveté about how fundamental consumerism has been throughout the history of the US, though accelerated after WWII; and to the US government including the unusually prominent role of lobbyists in all fields including determing what type of health care is available or not, what health research gets funded, etc.

Consumerism has also become a primary model of both health care policy and physcian-patient interaction (the patient consumer is always right, best to order excessive invasive unnecesaary tests to prevent a law suit from the dissatisfied customer, and to best amortize the machines to make one’s clinic well-frequented,

Consumerism has also become a primary model of education. Professors evaltuations and course evaluations are largely consumer satisfaction surveys that have a major impact on who is hired, full time, given tenure, and promoted. That in turn determines what is taught, what is researched and the ethos of the knowledge shared.

So consumerism and stuff are not as independent of other social structures as the video suggests.

Also the toxins include things like corn. Post WWII an agricultural minister decided that commercial farms would be the norm and corn the main crop. Then to facilitate consumption of all the corn they had to put corn syrup in everything, thereby increasing the sugars and fats in processed products, and being part of the current obesity epidemic in the US.

The US also exports consumerism as an ideology along with its products.

If you aren`t familiar with them you may enjoy George Carlin`s routine on “stuff” which I think about everytime I move mine; and Naomi Klein’s book No Logo, especially the latest edition with her essay on the branding of Obama.

I have the link for the essay online. Check your email.

    Very inspiring post–thanks!

فعلا الآن فهمت قصة إدمان الشراء للأشياء والفكرة الجهنمية من ورائه وساظل أقاوم هذا الإدمان ونشر الوعي بضرره الكبير.
